  1.              BIDDING PRINCIPLES AFTER A 1NT OPENING

  4. -- Jacoby followed by a jump raise to game in the indicated suit
  5. is a slam try, balanced hand, strong suit. Use Texas if not
  6. interested in slam. With a weakish suit, start with Stayman. With
  7. an unbalanced hand use Stayman, UHC, or jump immediately.

  9. -- Notrumper cue bids do not apply when responder has shown a
  10. balanced hand. Cue bids opposite a balanced hand say, "Need help
  11. here."

  13. -- Texas transfer applies in competition, but only through 3C.

  15. -- When responder makes a transfer bid, then jumps in a new suit,
  16. the jump is a splinter bid--a slam try that implies a strong suit.

  18. -- After a strong jump takeout response, 4NT by responder is Roman
  19. Key Card Blackwood. To make a natural raise, transfer and then bid
  20. 4NT.

  22. -- After a splinter bid in support of a minor suit, 4NT by opener
  23. is natural, a sign-off, but 4NT by the splinter bidder is Roman Key
  24. Card Blackwood (Exclusion Blackwood, if 4NT immediately follows the
  25. splinter bid--see chapter BLACKWOOD in the book "Strong Bidding."

  28. partner is Roman Key Card Blackwood.
